Next time that kitchen light starts to flicker, consider some of the following statistics before switching it out with the same old incandescent or CFL light bulb.

SwitchToLED-500x182Vero Beach, FL, USA – November 25, 2014 — In any given year, most homeowners will change a handful of light bulbs in or around the house. However, over the past few years the price of LED lights have dropped so significantly, that homeowners can now end the cycle of bulb replacement by switching to LED lights. KLUS Design, a top manufacturer of LED lighting profiles, fixtures, and accessories, has created an infographic that explains why homeowners should make the switch to LED’s (light emitting diodes).

Next time that kitchen light starts to flicker, consider some of the following statistics before switching it out with the same old incandescent or CFL light bulb.

A 60 watt incandescent light bulb needs to be replaced about once per year, with an average life-span of 1200 hours.

A 13 watt CFL (compact florescent light bulb) will need to be replaced once every 2-3 years, with an average lifespan of 8000 hours.

A 10 watt LED (light emitting diode light) will need to be replaced once every 16-25 years, with an average lifespan of 50,000 hours!

Based upon .10 cents per kilowatt hour, 800 lumen output, 3 hour usage per day, and an average of 40 bulbs per household, here are some estimated costs of what homeowners might expect to pay for each bulb type per year:

Incandescent bulbs only cost .50 to $1.00 each, but cost $8 per bulb per year to operate, so for forty bulbs, that costs around $320 dollars per year.

CFL bulbs cost $3-$4 each, but only cost around $2 per bulb per year to operate. $2 times forty bulbs equals $80 dollars per year.

LED bulbs currently cost $7-$14 per bulb, and cost around $1.30 per bulb, per year, times forty bulbs equals $52 dollars per year.

When considering the long lifespan of LED lights and the cost per bulb per year, LED’s are the clear winner in terms of energy and money savings. In addition to the annual savings, LED lights are durable, contain no harmful chemicals, and perform better in hot or cold climates.

Despite all the evidence showing switching to LED lights is the right move, KLUS Design, offers another reason to switch – because of the beauty, flexibility, and innovation that LED lights can bring into any home.

LED light strips can be added to areas on the home that normal bulbs just wont fit. These flexible lights can be integrated by using innovative LED profiles or extrusions designed for adding lights to floors, stairs, ceilings, drawers, cabinets, and even into the home exterior and landscaping. The result equals so much more than just saving money, it creates a jaw dropping impression that will make any home interior or exterior quite literally glow.
